- The industry directly employs over 2500 people and
indirectly provides jobs in Research
and Development, Farm Technology, Packaging, Storage,
Refrigeration, Transport and more.
- Queensland produces around 80% of Australia's bananas, NSW 15% and the Northern Territory and Western Australia 5%
- In 1998, the industry produced a staggering 270,000 tonnes
of bananas. That is enough
fruit to fill the MCG to a depth of over 40 metres!
